Bauhaus Luftfahrt welcomes IABG as new member

Dec 16, 2011 | Bauhaus Luftfahrt is expanding its circle of members. From 1 January 2012, the Ottobrunn-based Industrieanlagen-Betriebsgesellschaft mbH (IABG) will complement the existing support base of industry companies that since the foundation of Bauhaus Luftfahrt in 2005 consists of EADS, MTU Aero Engines and Liebherr-Aerospace. All supporting members of Bauhaus Luftfahrt have recently approved a corresponding application filed by IABG in August.

According to first plans, the cooperation between Bauhaus Luftfahrt and IABG as a technically-scientific services provider for the aerospace and security industry will mainly focus on key topics in the field of “Future Testing and Qualification Strategies” as well as numerous applications in the field of “Public Security”. A detailed planning of the common workscope is set to be conducted in the coming months.

IABG is adding to the cooperation with several decades of experience in the field of testing and certification of technology for air- and spacecraft, for instance in holistic qualification strategies or product lifecycle analyses. Moreover, the interdisciplinary research work at Bauhaus Luftfahrt will benefit from IABG’s experience in the security sector.

In its role as new industry partner IABG is further entitled to take a chair in Bauhaus Luftfahrt’s advisory board. This position will be held by Mr. Matthias Spott, who has already been welcomed by the representatives of all existing members. In its new function, the General Manager of IABG will actively form and coordinate the collaborative work between the company led by him, Bauhaus Luftfahrt and all its partners.

“We are happy to work together with Bauhaus Luftfahrt as its new partner,” states Matthias Spott, General Manager of IABG. “Over the last 50 years IABG has accompanied high-technology from development to safe application and operation. Hence, IABG is predestined to make a valuable contribution to the research topics of Bauhaus Luftfahrt.”

„Being able to attract another well-known industry partner like IABG is a clear signal for the continuously growing reputation of Bauhaus Luftfahrt,“ explains Prof. Dr. Mirko Hornung, Executive Director Research and Technology. “In the enormous expertise of IABG we see a large benefit for Bauhaus Luftfahrt that will not only strengthen the current scientific activities but also help us to develop entirely new fields of research.”

To continue its growth path and further manifest its reputation as a visionary systems house for aviation at the interface between science, industry and politics, Bauhaus Luftfahrt is always open for future cooperation and the involvement of additional players from the civil aerospace industry.
