New CTO at Bauhaus Luftfahrt
Dec 10, 2009 | Bauhaus Luftfahrt has a new Chief Technical Officer: As of 1 January 2010, Dr.-Ing. Mirko Hornung will assume the scientific leadership of the aviation think tank based in Munich. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dieter Schmitt, who after a year’s interim activity will leave Bauhaus Luftfahrt for retirement, will thus be succeeded by the aircraft engineer with a PhD. At the same time, Mr Hornung will be appointed as Chair of the Institute for Aerospace Systems at the Technical University Munich.
As a "Senior Manager System Concept Design" at EADS Defence & Security, Mr Hornung was lastly responsible for the design and development of military aeronautical systems. Between 2005 and 2007, the former officer of the German Air Force also worked as a "Program Manager Systems" for the A400M program management and as a "Special Projects Manager" for business development at EADS Defence & Security. From 2003 onwards, Mr Hornung performed design and analyses work in the area of engine integration on several projects as a development engineer at EADS Deutschland.
The new Chief Technical Officer of Bauhaus Luftfahrt is especially committed to research and learning: For example, between 1998 and 2003, Mr Hornung was active as a scientific associate at the Institute for Aeronautics at the University of the Federal Armed Forces Munich. Since 2003, the 38-year-old also gives regular guest lectures at the Joanneum University of Applied Sciences in Graz and at the University of the Federal Armed Forces Munich.
