After the initial enthusiasm for urban air mobility, there is now a long-term trend toward regional, sustainable air transport. This offers a speed advantage, and conventionally taking-off aircraft can use existing airport infrastructure close to cities. For example, electric aircraft could enable regional air mobility on short-haul routes while reducing environmental impact. In addition, airports can serve as renewable energy hubs. What regional air traffic in a European area and the associated network might look like, and which aircraft configurations are optimal with the various energy options (electric, SAF, H2, hybrid, etc.), will also be a key focus of Bauhaus Luftfahrt’s work in the near future.
